The 2nd Annual Water of Life Charity Whisky Event is in NYC May 12, 2016

Last year, Stephen had the distinct pleasure of attending the 1st Annual Water of Life Charity Whisky Event in New York City. The event, organized by our good friend Dr. Matthew Lurin, was a high-end charity whisky event that raised money for The Life Raft Group, a non-profit organization devoted to finding a cure for GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumors). Back in October of last year, we alerted you to Early Bird tickets going on sale for the 2nd Water of Life event. Well, the early birds have gotten their worms, but there are still tickets left to be had–at less discounted prices, of course. But first, you might want to know more about the event. The unique angle The Water of Life event is its speed dating theme, with pourers hosting five guests for a short session before guests move on to the next table with a new pourer. There will be food pairings at each table, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a buffet dinner with desserts. Last year’s event was a great success, and though it took many participants a few rounds to get the hang of the speed dating format, once they did, it was a great experience and a wonderfully novel way to do a whisky tasting. The VIP ticket will again afford premium pours, a very fancy commemorative glass, and access to terraces where fantastic cigars can be enjoyed, some even in pairings with whiskies. This year, Water of Life is adding an Ultra-VIP ticket that includes a private room and a masterclass worthy of the name “Ultra-VIP” (but thankfully falling short of the name “Ultron-VIP”). There’s also a new “American Whiskey Trail” option that guarantees you a stop at all of the tables on the trail to try a large assortment of Bourbons, ryes and other American whiskeys (it doesn’t restrict you as much as it sounds: you will just have a portion of your evening dedicated to ‘dating’ our local spirits). Finally, the event has also added the opportunity to purchase tickets to one of two opening masterclasses.
