Mark your calendars: October 11 & 12, 2013 are the dates for the whisky spectacle that is the 16th Annual WhiskyFest New York, and Bill and Stephen will be there! As do most whisky festivals/events, WhiskyFest New York offers whisky lovers the chance to meet the personalities behind their favorite brands and sample rare and highly coveted single malts and blends. It’s the exclusive tasting seminars on the fine details of blending techniques and the sheer size and scope of the event that sets it apart. Agoraphobics are advised to opt for a quiet tasting in Williamsburg run by a barely knowledgeable hipster.
Once again, the location of WhiskyFest New York is the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square at 1535 Broadway (see Stephen’s review of last year’s event). There are Grand Tastings Friday and Saturday night, with the Friday, October 11th tasting running from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with VIP ticket holders granted entrance at 5:30 pm. The Saturday, October 12th tasting will run from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm, with VIP ticket holders granted entrance at 6:30 pm. The Seminars will run on Saturday from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Chronomentrophobics can just follow the crowds, though pacing oneself will remain a challenge.
The Grand Tastings will offer over 300 of the world’s finest whiskies and the chance to interact with the distillers and blenders behind each brand. All attendees will receive a Glencairn Crystal commemorative nosing glass, gift bag, and event program. There will also be a gourmet buffet to complement your evening of drinking the good stuff. Deipnophobics can just focus on the whisky.
The Seminars will be intensive and will be hosted by whisky experts from around the world, complemented by a whisky-themed lunch, which is a lot better than having them be complimented by such a lunch (“Those are some nice looking seminars you got there. Come around here often?”). Herpetophobics would have been ruled out by the latter.
Friday or Saturday Grand Tasting – $225
Friday or Saturday VIP Grand Tasting – $275
Saturday Seminar – $395
(Chrometophobics are advised to use their credit cards.)
